the cream and strawberry bedside rug is the spring version of the classic dessert typical of the Tuscan tradition. Two layers of scented puff pastry contain within them a heart of smooth and enveloping pastry cream, enriched by the unique flavor of fresh strawberries. Despite the great simplicity and speed of execution, it is a dessert refined and surprising, suitable for Special occasions and be served as at the end of the meal dinner with guests. How to prepare cream and strawberry rugs
Collect the egg yolks in a bowl, pour in the sugar (1) and work with a hand whisk, until the mixture is light and fluffy.
Add the starch (2) and mix again.
Heat the milk in a saucepan over low heat; pour a ladle into the yolks mixture (3) and dilute well. Put everything on the heat, pour in the remaining milk and cook until thickened. Collect the cream in a container, cover with cling film and let cool in the refrigerator.
Divide the puff pastry in half and prick it with the tines of a fork (4). Bake it in a preheated oven at 180 ° C for 15 minutes. Once cooked, take it out of the oven and let it cool completely.
Wash the strawberries carefully, remove the stalk and cut them into cubes (5).
Mix the pastry cream and the strawberries, then spread them on a rectangle of puff pastry; cover with the second layer of pasta (6) and cool in the refrigerator for about 2-3 hours.
Sprinkle the surface with plenty of icing sugar and serve the cake cut into squares (7).
For convenience, you can use a puff pastry ready to use (you can find it in the supermarket fridge) or, alternatively, you can make it at home with our recipe. You can also replace the dough with a classic buttery shortcrust pastry.
You can flavor your pastry cream according to your desires: you can add a lemon zest, an orange zest or the seeds of a vanilla bean. In case of intolerance, you can also use a lactose free milk and very digestible. Once cold, to make it even more delicious, you can enrich it with dark chocolate chips.
As soon as the cream has thickened, take care to cover it with aluminum foil transparent in touch: you will thus avoid the formation of annoying patina on the surface.
In addition to this variant, there are many others: for example, you can replace strawberries with cherries or with others berries fresh, such as blueberries and raspberries.
Cream and strawberry mats can be stored for approx. 2-3 days in fridge, closed in a suitable airtight container.
