
The Whiskey Sour (or Whiskey Sour) is a fresh and delicate cocktail made with bourbon whiskey, lemon juice, sugar and egg white. Excellent as an aperitif. Here’s how to prepare this at home easy but effective drink, with the tips of a professional bartender.

- 30 ml of lemon juice
- 15 ml of sugar in syrup
- 1 teaspoon of egg white
- ice
- A slice of orange or lemon zest or a maraschino cherry to decorate
We asked Ivan Filippelli, Bar Manager of The Spirit Milano, to prepare the Whiskey Sour recipe, iced drink, with an enveloping taste thanks to the smoky aromas of bourbon refreshed by lemon.
Whiskey Sour is a cocktail based on Bourbon whiskey, lemon juice, sugar syrup, egg white, born in 1800 thanks to an English barman. Then a variant with vodka was born which takes the name of Vodka Sour.
The recipe calls for one double shaken of ingredients: the first time without ice and the second time with ice, in order to cool the cocktail. The ice-free shaking allows the egg white to mount, giving the drink its characteristic foam. If you don’t like the taste of egg white, you can omit it from the ingredients: the cocktail will however be less creamy.
To be served in a cup decorated with a slice of lemon, or a maraschino cherry. As gear get a colander, which is essential to filter the contents of the shaker into the glass.

How to prepare: Whiskey Sour


To prepare the Whiskey Sour, put all the ingredients in a shaker without ice. Start with fresh lemon juice. Add the sugar syrup.


Then pour the whiskey and egg white.


Shake the contents in the shaker for about a minute. Add some ice. For a second time, shake the shaker very quickly to cool the drink. Pour the cocktail into a glass or cup, filtering the contents with a colander.


Finish off the cocktail to taste with a slice of orange or a maraschino cherry. Or, as we did, with lemon essential oil zest. Your Whiskey Sour is ready to be served.
