Perfect Ice Peach Tea

Sweet Peach Ice Tea Glass with ice cubes and sliced peach inside

Even though I used to hate peaches as a kid, I quite like them now. All it took was one good peach milkshake and my mind changed. Ice cream has an undeniable power over me.

Fresh peaches to make our Peach Ice Tea recipe

The Origins of Peach Tea

Sweetened iced tea is a popular drink in the Southern US. And the oldest written recipe is believed to be from an 1879 cookbook. We can’t find any history of adding peaches, but they are a common crop in the southern states, especially in Georgia.

Here is our inspiration for the peach tea we tried at the restaurant.

A Bottle of Homemade Peach Simple Syrup

This peach iced tea is absolutely perfect. I hate comparing this tea to Sonic, because it means I have to admit I went there. But since the cat came out of the bag, I love the unsweetened Sonic iced tea with peaches and am happy to remake something very similar at home that is much fresher and made with ingredients I know and trust.

It starts with a simple peach syrup, which has the most beautiful pink hue. Not to mention, they taste amazing – like slushy gummies of ripe peaches. If you don’t want it, you’re wrong.

Once your simple syrup is made, all that’s left to do is brew your favorite black tea. We prefer loose leaves, but tea bags are fine too. The main flavor here is peach, but quality tea definitely can’t hurt.

  • Bring the sugar, water and peaches to a boil in a small saucepan. Then reduce the heat and use a wooden spoon to stir and crush the peaches for added flavour.
  • Once the sugar has dissolved, cover, remove from heat and let steep for 25-30 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, brew your tea using a large pot or tea maker. I use this loose leaf tea which is steeper than IngenuiTEA. NOTE: Use less tea if you prefer a weaker tea or more tea if you prefer a stronger tea, and try not to let it sit longer than 4-5 minutes or it may become bitter.
  • Once brewed, remove the tea bag or strain the loose leaf tea and transfer it to the pitcher. Chill until cold.
  • Once your simple syrup is done, pour it into a jar or container over a fine mesh strainer to strain the peaches. You can order peaches for later use, such as to put on top of oats or an ice cream sundae.
  • To serve, prepare a simple syrup and add as much tea as you like, or add all the simple syrup to the tea and stir. I prefer to leave it separate. Serve the tea over ice and sliced fresh peaches. The recipe as noted above makes about 10 servings (with ice and peaches).
